Skipton Building Society Grassroots Giving

Posted by Glenn Mellor on August 22, 2014 at 12:45 PM Comments comments (0)

I was recently invited to apply for funding through the Skipton Building Society Grassroots Giving scheme and as a result the Oldham Garden Suburb Association has been shortlisted for the funding, the next stage is for people to vote on our behalf. The groups receiving the most votes will receive one of the 161 pots of £500.00.

Please follow the links below to find out more information and vote for OGSA:)

Hi there,

Thank you so much for getting involved in Skipton Building Society’s Grassroots Giving initiative and congratulations, your group has been shortlisted for our funding!

We had hundreds of amazing applications and we've really loved reading about all the fantastic work going on in communities throughout the UK. To make it to the shortlist stage you beat off hundreds of other applicants and were able to clearly demonstrate the positive impact you make in your local community.

In order to fairly allocate the 161 pots of £500, we’re asking the public to tell us who they want to see receive the funding out of our 304 shortlisted groups. An individual profile has been created for your group and it can be seen here:

http://www.skiptongrg.co.uk/apply-for-funding/whos-applying/ Voting goes live on the 1st Sept and this link is also where you will click through to begin voting to receive the donation. Voting is open for a month and so please spread the word to your group, family and friends in order to gain as many votes as possible…

..and we will be promoting your group on our social media channels too. (Please make sure you’re following us on Twitter @SkiptonBS_GrG at

https://twitter.com/skiptonbs_grg and liking us on Facebook.com/skiptonbs so you can keep up to date with what’s happening)

As well as the free resources available under the Resources tab of the website, we've also launched a ‘Grassroots Giving Cluster’ on Project Dirt (www.projectdirt.com) to connect up all our wonderful 2013 winners and all 2013 and 2014 applicants from around the country. Through this network, groups are able to promote events, knowledge share, recruit and manage volunteers, share best practice and gain access to funding and learning resources, amongst other things.

Project Dirt is a social network, set up specifically with the aim of helping community and voluntary groups from around the UK. This will act as a ‘hub’ for our Grassroots Giving groups where everyone has a common interest; getting “stuck into” local activity, helping resource projects, learning new skills which would benefit your group and most of all…meeting new people and having fun! Being part of the Project Dirt community will allow you to engage with a wider network of people local to you and will hopefully be of great benefit to your group.

The site is free to join and easy to set up, and It would be great if you could sign onto the site, create a page for your community group and follow our hub:

As previously mentioned, the best way to keep up to speed with what’s happening is by following us on Twitter.

Kind Regards

The Grassroots Giving Team

The Skipton Building Society Grassroots Giving campaign has 161 pots of £500 to give away to deserving community and voluntary groups throughout the UK.
